Frequently Asked Questions
When was Ezra International started? Ezra International began in 1995 by a businessman from Seattle, Washington by the name of Mel Hoelzle..
Is there still a problem with anti-semitism in the former Soviet Union? Since the beginning of time there has always been and continues to be a hatred toward the Jewish people. In the Former Soviet Union there are many Neo-Nazi groups who openly conduct massive threats and killings of Jewish people.
Why are we as gentiles involved in this work? Isaiah 49:22 declares: This is what the Sovereign Lord says: "See, I will beckon to the Gentiles, I will lift up my banner to the peoples; they (the Gentiles) will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders." Also, in Jeremiah 31:8-10 "See, I will bring them from the land of the north (the Former Soviet Union) and gather them from the ends of the earth. Among them will be the blind and the lame, expectant mothers and women in labor; a great throng will return."
Do we try to convert the Jewish people from Judaism to Christianity? No, it is not our ministry or our purpose to convert any of the Jewish immigrants to Christianity.
Why not? Our sole ministry is to return the Jewish people back to their homeland of Israel. Ezekiel 36:24,28 declares "For I will take you out of the nations, I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back to your own land. You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people and I will be your God."
Why is there such an urgency in our ministry? Simply because we feel that the time is VERY SHORT and we must work as quickly as possible to return as many Jews back to Israel before the doors are closed again.
What is the cost of returning a Jewish immigrant back to Israel? The cost is approximately $360 to return each of the repatriates back to their homeland.
What does this $360 cover for each individual? For each $360 tax-deductible contribution to Ezra International, we provide the cost for their passports to leave the country, we pay any debt still outstanding for each individual, we provide transportation within the country to obtain their paperwork and also transportation to the airport for the trip back to their homeland. The average income in the Ukraine is approximately $34 per month making it impossible for most to go to Israel without EZRA's assistance.
